Spindle enable button for Bit Runner question

Is the spindle enable button supposed to “lock out” the router from running if it is NOT lit? My router will turn on from the Carbide Motion program (latest) regardless of whether the button is on (lit red) or off.

I never use my button on my BitRunner but if I remember that is just a manual override to turn on the router manually. For instance you installed a bit and just want to see if it is spinning true or making noise.

It doesn’t work that way either. If I leave the button enabled and the program turns off the router it turns off. When the program is not running pushing the button does nothing other than turn the led on / off on the button. It was my understanding that if something went wrong while the program is running you could immediately turn off the router by pressing the button to the off position.

Anyone from Carbide 3D care to reply?

I use my button all the time and it locks the spindle off if there is no red light (button not pushed). If it is on, the software can turn the spindle on and off at will. This is an important safety feature and if your button cannot inhibit the spindle, you should look into why and fix it.

Well obviously there must be a problem. I looked through the setup to see if there may be something amiss but didn’t see anything. The spindle (router) turns on/off under program control but the button, even though it lights up has no effect. I have a Shapeoko model 3.

I would contact Carbide3D support directly. I have found them to be really helpful.

For those wondering the problem has been solved. Believe it or not the problem ended up being the cable between the Spindle Enable button and the BitRunner.
