My z rails became hell squeaky today on a job, and remain squeaky after oiling the HG-15 as per the instructions (CNC Machine Maintenance)
… not sure what else this could be??
Your noise sounds more like a bearing noise and not on the rails. Your noise in loudest when raising the Z axis and has a rhythm to it.
I would check all the components on the Z motor and screw assembly including the bearing components on both ends of the screw and motor. If you use shop air to blow off your machine you can force small particles into the bearings and cause them to become packed and dried out and here come the noise and problems.
You can test for noise or roughness in the bearings several ways.
Always keep you body parts away from moving parts and don’t put any body parts you like in a position to get them hurt or become unattached from your body.
So much for the disclaimer.
use a long screwdriver and place it on the bearings and raise and lower the Z assembly and feel for a vibration or rough feeling in the bearing. Do this for all the bearings. usually the one that feels the worst is the one causing the problems.
another method is to use a rubber hose and place it near the bearings and listen for the sound and test each bearing and the worst or loudest sounding one will be the problem. The sound can be loud so don’t place the hose touching you ear until you determine exactly how loud and safe it really is
You should also check the ball and screw for any play in the bearing.
