I recently bought and assembled the Shapeoko 4 XXL. However on Carbide Motion, the X-Axis sensor is always engaged on my laptop and the blue sensor light is always on. but the light on the actual sensor is will turn on and off when in contact with metal as you would expect. When I go to initialize, the error message HM001 appears. I tried swapping the X / Z cables to test the X Axis motor is I was about to move CNC left and right but not up and down. When I swapped them back, I could move it up and down but no longer left and right.
with the power to machine off remove the cover to the PC board.
Power up the machine but do not initialize your blue light should be on as you stated before.
Power down the machine
Disconnect the harness for the proximity sensor at the PC board.
Power up the machine but do not initialize
If the board is good the blue light should go out.
If the light is still on contact support to get advise on the PC board.
If the light goes out trouble could be in the harness or the proximity sensor. You could have a shorted wire or connector or a bad proximity sensor.
Power down and reconnect the harness to the PC board
Power up the machine but do not initialize if the problem is still there the blue light should be on.
Go to the proximity sensor and disconnect the sensor from the harness.
If the blue light on the PC board goes out the proximity sensor may have failed, contact support for advice on the sensor.
If the blue light is still on check ALL the connectors and pins on that harness and look for damaged pins, wires frayed and touching another wire or connector can be damaged. Look at both connectors sides.
Start with the connector closest to the proximity sensor and as you disconnect and wiggle/move the harness look at the blue light each time you move or disconnect it may turn the blue light off by doing this and if so you should look at that section for damage.
If you do find a problem you should contact support for advice on the harness.
Followed the steps. This is where I noticed the blue light on the controller turn off.
Power up the machine but do not initialize if the problem is still there the blue light should be on.
“Go to the proximity sensor and disconnect the sensor from the harness.
If the blue light on the PC board goes out the proximity sensor may have failed, contact support for advice on the sensor.”
Going to call customer support and will post once I have more info. Thanks again!
Update**
For anyone that is trying to figure out why either there X Axis or Z Axis switches aren’t working on a Shapeoko 4, my recommendation is to swap the the X and Z proximity switches, turn the machine on and see if the continuous activation on the control panel swaps as well. For example, if your X- Axis was always showing that it was activated (blue light on control panel on regardless if metal is touching or not) and you swap the X and Z Axis switches, then the Z-Axis should then should be continuously on. This would indicate, in my non-professional opinion, that the homing switch is the issue and should be replaced.
I ordered a new switch this afternoon, as I havent heard back from customer support and will update whether this fixed the issue.
