STOPPING the Machine

Is there no way to stop the machine when it’s wanting to change bits? if I hit the X at the top right of the dialog box, it “still” goes to the bit setter as if I hit “ok”

Is it stopping in order to change the bit that is already in the machine? It does that to me as well but I just use that time to inspect the bit, etc… I’m assuming CM believes each path has its own bit so it asks for a change. Now that I think about it I’ve been sloppy with the bit libraries I use as I’ve been building my own but sometimes out of habit select the Shapeoko or IDC libraries. Maybe that’s why? Different library but same bit. I’m sure a big-brain will let us know. lol

If you need to stop the machine, apply a Vulcan nerve pinch and kill the power.

The UI assumes that the user is managing tool changes and so forth as expected and is not (for example) okaying a tool change when the correct (or no) tool was installed.

It proceeds wirh its path when on the way to change the bit, will hit the bit setter to measure / set Z-zero, and is able then to react to the green “pause” area, where it can be stopped as soon as it completely stopped any movement with the red “stop” area beneath the pause button. In that case one can return to work. One must push the pause button, the right “stop” button is not functional at this time. When one does it this way there is no need to re-initialize, what will be necessary when the left lower “stop” button (for me the last resort button before pulling the plug) is bushed or the right “stop” button beneath the “pause” button is pushed too early.

There is nothing wrong re-initializing the machine, it remembers the zero-settings, it is just an annoying loss of time.

Shawn: same bits in different libraries have different settings. May be that is the reason for a stop? However when I use the same library (my own) and define different speed and feed the machine does not ask for a tool change, but changes the speed/feed.

unfortunately, before all the answers started pouring in, I had just hit the Red Stop, as I didn’t know any other way to get “out” of the program.
See, to me, the thing is, say you program an 1/8 inch, a 1/4 and a vee, but after you run your 1/8 (meaning you’ve started and are IN the program) it goes to the bit setter landing area for you to put in the quarter inch, but you realize, damn, I should have a Bowl bit or something bigger or smaller in size, the "right yellow stop button is not available, actually nothing is available but the dialog box for you to change bits. I remember hitting the X to get out the dialog box one time back in the day and the machine proceeded with the old bit to the bit setter, thats what let me know, there was no way out of going to the better sitter, With Out hitting my killswitch…which, I’m not complaining about, (it sucks) but I was just asking if anyone knew of a better or alternative way before I proceeded always hitting my kill switch for making a small mistake in bit choice. The real FIX is to just do better planning and then “double check” that arrangement of bits “before” starting of course, again, was just wondering if there was an alternative way out was all. It’s cool, I hit the red stop or my kill switch and Pur Ritty much just start over. lol

I’ve had this happen a few times and basically i just hit “OK” for changing the bit then press the pause button and stop button in the UI, not the big red one, the one next to the “Pause” button. This gracefully stops the job then I’ll update the toolpaths in Carbide Create to skip the one that had completed and change the bit I decided to switch to. Then start the job over with the new settings.
