I got a xxl and I wanted to do him a wood sign but when I put it in the Inkscape it really doesn’t like it. What do you use or what have you found to be the best for these projects. I attached the photo I was working with. 
Inkscape is a vector editor, and if making an SVG for Carbide Create, needs to work only with vector elements, not pixel images.
You could put this on a background layer and re-draw/re-create it, or use a CAM program which will work from an image to make a depth map.
Alternately, you could re-create the shield in a 3D modeling program — that would yield the best result.
