Surfacing a 4x4 spoilboard?

I recently got the 5pro. How does one go about surfacing a 4x4 spoilboard? I have read you want to start OFF of the material as the bit is not a plunging bit (make sense). But then… where do you start? Do I need to simply make a 4 x 3’10" spoilboard to leave room for the bit to start?

See:

I have read the specs for the 4x4 SO5 and it can cut the whole spoilboard. Other Shapeoko machines cannot reach the entire spoilboard. Even though the bits for surfacing are not plunge bits the momentary plunge and then the bit moving ahead should not be a problem. There is a lot of SO5 4x4 users and someone with a 4x4 will pipe in.
