Been using my XXL Pro for a month and cracked the Sweepy right where the screws go through. I like the design in general, but the plastic seems brittle for something that will be compressed and uncompressed with every bit change.
Does anyone have a lead on a replacement dust boot that is made from a tougher plastic?
Those are mostly 3d printed so if you have access to a 3d printer and want to make one you should check out thingiverse.com
If you live in a larger city there are many maker cooperatives and you can see if someone can print your dust boot for you and then put the magnets in and so on.
I don’t remove the boot for every tool change, but with different length bits, I do unlatch it to slide it up and down. I try to set bits to the same depth to minimize this, but with some short shank v bits in particular, I think getting more of the shank inside the collet is good practice.
The options are either to set the Sweepy high and accept that you’ll get an imperfect seal to the piece and worse dust collection with longer bits, or set the Sweepy low and always “crush” the bristles (for some reason this just feels wrong), or move the Sweepy up and down when using bits with big length differences, which happens to me a lot between my v bits and my end mills.
