Any news on using an android tablet for motion control? In the absence of a usb connector, I imagine it would have to use bluetooth to connect to the Shapeoko controller.
I like the idea of a tablet when there is dust around.
Carbide Motion (and Create for that matter) is unlikely to get ported to Android.
There are 3rd party options for it:
Pila / grbl-overseer · GitLab — multiplatform, also runs on desktops

Windows tablets of course work well, and some are fanless — I use a Toshiba Encore 2 Write 10 most of the time when controlling my machines.
CM4 had a network interface which allowed one to use a small computer such as an Intel Compute Stick and to then connect to that over a wireless network connection.
That Toshiba looks interesting. I’m guessing it’s pretty enjoyable to use in controlling your machines?
I’m looking to add some kind of ease-of-use control hardware I can keep in the shop, rather than just having my laptop awkwardly plugged into the CNC.
It was a nice machine, but unfortunately, long gone in the market (if I could find an 8" unit (Toshiba Encore 2 Write 8) for a reasonable price I’d buy it as a backup).
Similarly, there isn’t a real replacement for my Samsung Galaxy Book 12 either. I have hopes for Chrome, but we’ll have to see how that plays out.
I am currently trying out a MacBook Pro 13", but the screen is a bit small, and I worry about the speakers and keyboard and dust when cutting, and I’m still debating on which stylus option I’ll be using (either a Wacom Cintiq, a Wacom One, or an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil).
I saw this recommendation on Youtube the other day…
It’s called a Fusion 5 Win 10 tablet, about $200.
Going to try it myself.
That looks great. the problem for me is that Amazon Australia is charging $818 Australian for it. I don’t know why.
I bought a fusion5 after seeing @robrob’s video. It has been working well for me. I have the shapeoko hooked up through the full size usb port and use a male-to-male micro usb cable to connect an xbox controller for jogging.
I don’t what you are complaining about @OldDude you’re getting free freight!
Seriously, it’s called gouging. Greetings from Queensland.
It’s true. The free freight aspect gives me such a warm feeling.
Greetings from NSW.
What does this look like for driving the Shapeoko?
It should work well — at least one developer for Carbide Create/Motion uses a Surface, and my son’s Surface Book 3 does high DPI scaling perfectly (which I’m quite jealous of, but which still won’t win me over to the NTrig digitizer it uses).
