Tablet recommendation

Just purchased my Shapeoko and need to pick up a tablet to use for jogging and running the machine.
Any current recommendations for something inexpensive?

looking for something fanless and fairly robust in terms of being knocked about the garage.

I’ve been thrilled by my Samsung Galaxy Book 12, and the smaller version, the 10.6 was fanless, but has unfortunately since been discontinued, and while there was an update for the larger size the smaller was orphaned.

I’ve had good luck with my Toshiba Encore 2 Write 10 (I prefer tablets with an active stylus), but it too was discontinued with no direct successor (let’s not talk about the Dynabook which just wounds me).

Some folks have reported success with the Surface Go (I find it a non-starter since MS cheaped out on the custom chip which enables their NTrig stylus technology to work better) — other Surface units should work well (the devs use them), and the Lenovo Yogabook has had favourable reports (and with its eink display presents the possibility of outside use — I cut tropical hardwoods out of doors and used to use a tablet with a Transflective display to control my machine when doing so).

That said, a lot of folks just use an RCA Cambio.

If you just want it for jogging and running the machine use a Raspberry Pi 3B+ at $35 and a Kindle Fire Table with CNCjs. I love this setup. You can access it from your PC too.

Thanks to a recommendation from @robrob I purchased one of these:

Probably doesn’t meet your toughness specs, but it works well and frees up my shop computer for design work and typical PC stuff. I have a picture of the setup I use in my gallery post. (Gamepad support in CM5 is great!!)

Do you have any pictures or details on this setup?
like what the interface looks like for you on the Kindle Fire?
Do you lose any functionality (like Probe or BitSetter)?

Thank you!

Wouldn’t give you a nickel for a fire tablet. My $150used surface pro works fine and runs most anything Win 10 does. And is good touchscreen.
