The selected layer has no elements

How To

I created a project, it has different proposed types of cuts so I layered it for each element. When I highlight an element I get the above message. Idea’s?

After you created the layer and highlighted the selection, did you pick move selection to layer?

I selected the + made a new layer while the text was highlighted. It said enter name of layer, and ok. After that I did not see a prompt to add anything to layer. What am I missing

Highlight what you want in the layer and them click on the gear icon by the layer. One of your choices will be add selection to layer
