Since I’m still new to this (9 months) I have a question regarding Tool Path Zero.
I’ve always used lower left as my zero point however I’ve seen threads where Center is used or any of the 4 available. My question is what is the purpose of having 4 to choose from. Again pardon my naivete everything a learning experience and I know it always will be.
Center makes sense if you are carving on an irregular shaped piece if stock - there may not even be a corner in the lower left to measure from!
Center left is useful for some simple two-sided machining. If the top edge and bottom edge of your stock are parallel, then flipping it over effectively moves the zero from bottom left to top left (or vice versa). So, you set up your design with zero on center left, and all your front side design happens above the center line ( so the zero is at bottom left for the frontside design), and all your back side happens below the center line, so that when you flip the bottom design is relative to the top left.
I always use center for my projects. Just found its easier to set than using lower left. Found it was kind of hard to set the center of the bit over the corner of the stock especially when using a smaller bit. This also works well when my stock is larger than the dimensions set in CC and i am going to trim the stock later. Just my preference.
