Touch Probe - I dont get it?

Hi - I have a touchprobe that I have never used yet, but I’m having a hard time understanding the value it brings? You still have to jog the machine over to the probe like you would when you find zero anyways, so what is the value? I’m probably missing something, which is why I’m asking the question.

It’s a bit faster to jog quickly to a rough position, then have the machine Probe than it is to jog to a precise point along 3 axes — the machine should also be more consistent at that.

I’ve also machined in a pocket which allows me to register a two-sided cut using the Probe.

A simple technique for two-sided work

Basically one sets up the job with the origin at the center and cuts the left side as the one which has the less positionally sensitive elements cut, along with a mirrored inset for the Probe. Then after flipping, one cuts the right side which is registered on the Probe cutout using the Probe and has all the features from the other side as well as the outer profile: [image]
