Hello Group! Well finally getting my Shapeoko 5.0 Pro (purchased 2024) out of the box and setup. Retired and its just didn’t workout to setup until now. I’ve upgraded to 5.1 heavier base and legs. I have the 65 mm VFD Spindle 110vac and I’m going to use a Geekom A5 mini computer. My question is the best (easiest to use) touch screen monitor to use with the setup (running Windows 11)? Thanks for any help!

I recently added the gControl Panel Computer when I set up my 5.1.
It’s a 15” touch screen that comes with Win 11 and gControl preloaded. I added a USB stick and set it up with Linux Mint. I can select Mint or Windows at boot time and have CM loaded on both.
I have really only used the Mint side so far. It has been great and the size of the screen is a huge plus.
It comes with a mounting arm as well which is set up for a different CNC but I found a way to make it work.
For $500 it’s hard to pass up.
I really appreciate the response but I already have a mini computer that I purchased for the application, just wondering about a touch screen to go with it. Sounds like a good alternative and a great price but I just need to use the one I have. Thanks.

Gotcha. I don’t have any experience with non integrated touch screens. I am sure someone else on the forum here will have some input.
I bought a Raspad v3 tablet shell which added a touch screen to one of my rPi 4s (but it’s since been discontinued).
One of my co-workers purchased an inexpensive external touch screen from Amazon and it has been working well for her (but she doesn’t use it w/ a CNC), but when helping her w/ her machine it works as well as the touch input on my Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Pro 360 which does work perfectly w/ Carbide Motion.
I recently got this cheap one from amazon and it works great! I’m using it with a linux computer but it would work for anything, i’m sure. It’s 1080p resolution so you might need/want to increase the size of the stuff on screen, but that might be something you’re doing already.
i got this one, the touch resolution is coarse but sufficient, I enjoy the workflow, my only complaint is I havnt figured out how to make it wake the mini pc.

My solution was to never let my laptop go to sleep and i just turn off the monitor. Not perfect but it gets the job done and the laptop doesn’t use much power anyway.

You could probably use a cheaper monitor too, they all basically work the same and are not difficult to use at all. There’s just an extra USB cable you connect to your computer, which is how the monitor tells it where it’s been pressed.
