After a little experimenting, I finally figured out how to get an inlay to fit. I’m using a gap of 0.3 mm.

Very nice fit and finish. If I were doing this I would have made the grain parallel or 90 degrees. However I understand when you have glue spread and the clock is ticking you dont always remember things like grain orientation.
You never go wrong with walnut.
Will this be a wall hanger or a platter?

Well, things did not align and & was a couple of degrees off. So, instead I figured better to have a drastic complement to offset
