UGS, Shapeoko and a tablet

I am trying to use a tablet to run UGS on my shapeoko xxl. I have been using my lapdop and a desk top just fine. But the tablet wont let the setup wizard run, I cannot do a soft reset and an unlock. I have no Idea whats wrong,
I also use carbide motion and after some good advice from William Adams I was able to get carbide motion to work.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

Hi @cobbler295,

If CM works on that same tablet, then at least we know the USB connection is operational

  • Does UGS succeed to connect to the machine ?
    • if not, have you tried running UGS as administrator to see if it changes anything ?
  • If you do connect successfully, does Homing work? (Home button or sending $H in the console)
  • you mention “Unlock” fails, does sending $X in the console work ?
What kind of info shows up in the GRBL console, any error message there ?

When I get home tonight I will try running it in admin mode and see if that makes a difference.

But in regular mode when I try to run set up wizard and click the connect button I get an error that say “This setup wizard is not supported for this controller.”.

When I try to do a soft reset I get “No supported kill alarm lock method for this version.”

I also get “No supported view parser state method for this version.”

I will let you know what happens when I try to run it in administrator mode.

Thanks

Denny

and you do have “Firmware: GRBL” selected in the connect pane/area ?

Ok here goes. GRBL. Is selected. I found out by accident that the tablet is not connecting to the grbl board using UGS. When I unplug the USB cable I get the same results. The UGS window says connected with the band rate and port. Says cutters offline try the $$ and I get GRBL or loading. Tried reloading UGS, even tried a different USB cable. I tried carbide motion again and that works. So the real issue is what do I do to make the tablet comparable with UGS. My frustration level is starting to peak. Thanks all

Random ideas:

  • under “Port”, do you have multiple choices (like, several COMxxx values). If so, you may not be connecting to the Shapeoko COM port, but to another COM port on the tablet)
  • Is baudrate set at 115200 ?

Only one com port is shown. And I am using that baud rate. I even removed and reinstalled the tablet port
