I have a Shaopoko 3 XL being run by Carbide Motion 635 on a Raspberry Pi.
I’m making a slight modification to it that requires me to mill some holes into the spoil board at precise locations relative to the cutting area.
My plan is to use the machine coordinates to locate the bit exactly where it needs to be relative to the machine and then set my work zero, the cut job will have the appropriate origin to match.
I have a bit of experience with other CNC’s so I was expecting the homing location to have coordinates 0, 0 or values that would make the lower left corner of the cutting area 0, 0.
The actual coordinates set after homing are X:624.763 Y:324.462.
That puts a 0, 0 point approximately 190mm in from the left side and 45mm in from the front edge on the machine.
I can move the spindle into coordinates with negative values so I can still use the machine coordinates to position the spindle exactly where I want it relative to the machine but I just find it weird that the Machine Coordinates 0, 0 point displayed in Carbide Motion isn’t in a more intuitive place.
Is there a reason for this I’m not noticing?
Thanks.
