I bought the HDM for its ability to cut a range of materials. Overall I’m very happy with the machine, but the cutting area is too small.
Other than buying an entirely new CNC, is there any way to upgrade the HDM to accommodate a larger bed? (Ideally in the 4x6’ range).
No, not really, that’s why we sell the Shapeoko 5 Pro (which tops out at 4’ x 4’, but can tile to arbitrarily long lengths)
Part the hdm metal capacity comes from its rigidity and vibration resistance. Making things longer is going to eliminate that.
As some one who’s gone from a 3xxl. To a 4x4 5pro I’m getting more into plastics and aluminums and looking at real milling machines. And the ability to have a 24”+ travel length on an axis isn’t not cheap.
