I would like to upgrade from S3 XL to an XXL size? I would love to upgrade to the Pro but I need a lower cost, and I don’t need two CNC’s! I see two paths to a size upgrade. Either I find the old expansion kit (but then I would have to go thru the linear rail install, if I could find one) or sell my 3 and buy the XXL Pro. Are there any drawings or technical specs for the expansion? I would like to evaluate the cost of extension vs. sell/purchase.
The Expansion is no longer available new — you’d need to either find one which wasn’t used, or find a current owner of an SO3 XXL who wants to downsize to an XL and either swap parts or machines.
The other option is to sell your current machine, then purchase an SO4 or Pro XXL — another option to consider would be the 2x2 SO5 Pro — would your projects fit on that?
No, the only reason I am upgrading is size. It turns out that on the XL you can only cut something that is about 16" high. I need something bigger. If I am going to spend the money for a SP4 I might as well get the Pro.
Hi Ed…based on your user name I think you may be the Eddie B I know from our former days @ Honeywell??
Anyway, sounds like you are bitten by the CNC bug now…welcome to the club. Although I dont want to discourage anyone from taking the DIY “upgrade” path…I can tell you you will be $$$$ ahead buying the bigger better machine. Used shapeokoes seem to sell pretty well and quickly here.
I already have more than a 2x2 5pro tied up in my original SO3. If you are useing the machine to make $$$, then buy a new one. If you love the challenge of building a machine for your own satisfaction, have at the upgrade.
