Using Booleans to cut out sections

For a Boolean operation to work, there has to be a meaningful intersection.

Rather than one circle and one rectangle

the most expedient way to do this using Boolean operations would be two rectangles and one circle:

Select the three elements which define the region you want:

That said, an easier way to do this is using the original rectangle and the Corner tool:

Fill in the desired radius:

However, note that this only works on a clean/unedited rectangle:

Once one is working with straight lines, the Radius:

can be instantiated by clicking:
