USMC 250 Year Anniversary

I recently finished a military memorabilia cabinet for my father inlaw. During the build I made a Marine Corp logo on a piece of walnut as a test. The test was successful but not used on the cabinet itself. The piece has been sitting around the shop for a couple of months. I am an Air Force Veteran so it was of no use to me. So I decided to make a base and finish the piece. I will give it away out our April 5, 2025 Wood Workers of East Texas Club meeting. I will ask all former Marines to get a number and raffle it off as a door prize. If I have time I will make one for Navy, Army and Air Force as well and raffle it off to those veterans.

On the base I engraved Semper Fidelis and 250 Years in 2025. I used my Jessem doweling jig to attach the logo to the base.

Needs finish but will apply Satin Wipeon Polyurethane.

Here is picture of my finished cabinet for my father inlaw. On the sides I engraved MARINES. The two swords are a Marine Corp Association ceremonial sword. The other is a WWII Japanese NCO Sword. My father inlaw took the Japanese sword from a North Korean he dispatched.

Made memorial flag case with his name. I have known people that had memorial flag cases that the person’s name has been forgotten. My father inlaw was a WWII and Korean War veteran.

I made an executive decision to represent Air Force, Army and Navy. Got the design done and got AF and Navy done. Army is currently cutting.

Will decide in the morning if I epoxy fill them or paint them. Painting will be easier but epoxy may wipe out some detail like on the Navy one.

Navy in Cherry

Air Force in Oak

The army one will be like this. Oak

If there are any Coast Guard I will make them one special.

Here is the US Army one.

It has dewaxed shellac on it ready to epoxy fill or paint.
