V Carve 3 times

Making some coasters and doing an intricate pattern. The cut is fantastic, clear and sharp even using cheap box store pine. No issues so far. The carve takes 3 passes at the pattern, is this normal?

How deep is your depth per pass for the V-bit, versus your total depth of cut (the deepest the bit cuts)?

Do you mean at corners and so forth? Yes — the geometry gets converted into a polyline and cutting algorithm tries to put the tip of the tool everywhere a sharp edge seems to be.

The depth of cut was from .375" to .395".
