So I have a 90 degree v-bit, 6.35mm in diameter.
Material is 6.0mm, I set the max depth to 4.5mm
I am aware that as the bit goes deeper, the carve it makes becomes thicker but I guess the program doesn’t want to acknowledge the bit thickness and in one place just goes deep and thinks that the lettering will be OK.
As you can see in the photo, all the letters come out perfect except for the lower corner of L, a bit of the top of A and the letter N.
No matter what I set in the toolpath (different depth or a thicker bit, still 90* vee but thicker) the blue lines are the same, which means the machine will keep doing the same and yes, this is the results I keep getting. How to force it to carve this piece right?
If you are depth-limiting the V carving (which cuts along the center and will be affected by the tool not being able to cut deeply enough to reach both sides) and it is affecting the appearance of the cut you should instead use an Advanced V carving (which cuts along the perimeter, preserving the appearance).
The problem is that the width at those ‘damaged’ places is already at the max of the bit (6.35mm) so going deeper won’t changed much I was hoping the bit would make two passes or three (on in the center and two at the sides to complete the carve…
The thing is that if I use a bigger bit, I must use one with welded carbide flutes and the quality is so so, this is why I use a solid carbide bit.
