I’m using a 6.5 hp craftsman vacuum in other room. Works well.
Problem is noise. The craftsman is less shrill than the shopvac or rigid but can be heard upstairs.
I looking at 1 hp dust collection systems by Jet or Delta (used $100-150).
I wonder what the noise difference would be, is it worth the investment.
Unless you’re running every day all day I would take a look at the DeWalt Stealthsonic. That solves 95% of vacuum noise problems for me. Be SURE to get the Stealthsonic. They make other vacs that look suspiciously similar. I think they have come down in price since I bought mine. Lots of guys here run those.
Also, which model of the Stealthsonic matters — there’s a smaller one with a commensurately smaller diameter hose — a 2.5" straight run makes a huge difference in noise.
