VFD controller for 80mm spindle, remote start/stop of auto blast gate and dust collection

Is information available for the 5.1 with 80mm spindle? We currently use the XXL and there is a programmable relay within the VFD controller that we use to remotely activate a blast gate and dust collection system ONLY when the spindle spins, not during normal motion moves or job setup (X,Y,Z) moves and since the VFD is normally powered on, a current detection AC strip would be triggered whenever VFD is powered on.

I’d reach out to sales if you haven’t yet.
See if the vfd they source for the machine supports the same internal relay functionality.
(I assume they don’t “officially” support this but asking if it’s possible seems worthwhile)

It’s possible to use an adjustable current detector for activating dust collection.

Since my dust collection is controlled by a low voltage relay, the current limit on the device isn’t a problem.

This requires some wiring, but it’s not very hard. The device requires NO direct connection to power, it operate parasitically from the detection loop. I ran the hot out from the electrical box I have the receptacle in, through the detector, and back to the receptacle itself.

Since it’s adjustable, I can set it so that it triggers only when the spindle actually turns on. Occasionally I get a momentary trigger (for example, inrush current at startup), but I don’t find it to be a problem for my usage.

Did you run L1 OR L2 through this current sensing switch? This might do the trick after any inrush current settles down (false trigger) and then relay closes when spindle ramps up. Thanks for the tip.

It doesn’t matter which line you run through the sensor, it just has to be current carrying (i.e., not ground).

Thanks for the response and the link to the CT used. I will implement that in our build of the CNC.
