Recently ordered the Shapeoko VFD Spindle Kit and HDZ for my Shapeoko Pro. I was curious where people are placing, mounting or whatever the VFD Enclosure Box? I suppose since the power switch is on the front it would be best to have it within reach. I’m not sure if I want to place it on top of the table next to the CNC or underneath mounted to the bottom or the table or the what.
Any pics or anything of what others have done?
Also can the BitRunner V2 I have currently be used for the vacuum on its own. I know it’ll no longer be hooked to the main board because the VFD hooks in the same spot. I’m just speaking as for an on/off switch manually with the switch box.
It may be possible to hook up your vacuum to the control board but it would make more sense to get a relay to turn on the vacuum on its own circuit. The shop vacs pull a lot of current. So make sure you are not overloading your circuit with the VFD spindle adding a vacuum. A simple solution would something like this.
These work so that when current is sensed a relay turns on the other outlet and turns on your vacuum. The switch can be on its own circuit but another 120 volt plug triggers the vacuum.
I have mine mounted on the back right side of my table, under the table top. The VFD cable doesn’t allow too much leeway in placement. It has keyhole mounting holes on the back, so it mounts to the side of things well.
I bought the IVAC Switch and sensor. I really like that set up. Has a delay at the beginning, and it runs for about 10 seconds after the spindle stops.
So in my garage workshop I installed last year a sub panel for things like my table saw, band saw, dust collector and more. I have lots of extra MC cable so I suppose I could just run a new MC cable, outlet and 20 amp breaker for just the spindle and vac. And buy the Ortis Automatic Vacuum switch you listed. Keep both on one breaker and use the Ortis to power on the vacuum after it senses the spindle kick on.
