Vibration pad for Shapeoko Pro 5

I am assembling my new Shapeoko Pro 5 2 x 4 machine
I would like to place a rubber pad between it and my bench
Does anyone have experience with placing an anti-fatigue floor mat cut to the size of the machine’s footprint? Or putting similar mat squares under the legs of the bench on which the machine sits?

Thanks

Many times it has been recommended to add those soft floor mats from Harbor Freight under the machine. I have yet to read where someone recommended that for the Pro 5, though.

I have my SO5 Pro 4x2 on three sections of Anti-fatigue HF mats which has worked out well.

Thanks so much
That is exactly what I am planning to do
Never have done CNC before, I wanted to ask if there would be a problem with the mats
It seems like a good idea

I do not have the machine on pads.
I do not get any vibration unless I am doing something very wrong.

The machine is pretty stiff. I did use wood shims to fill irregularities in the table top.
The my table will try to move on fast direction changes, so put triangles at the corner legs.
A metal strap or something

Same here James … my 4x2 is also NOT on pads and there is no vibration at all. I built a custom workbench to put the machine on and it is as solid as a rock. No flex and no motion.

Please note that we specifically advise against bolting the machines down — it’s okay to block them in at the corners, but this should be done in such a way that the machine is not torqued down to a surface which may be less flat/square than the machine structure.

The things I find the foam helps with are:

  • dampening noise/resonance vibration
  • aesthetics (my machine overhangs at front and back slightly, and supporting the machine on the pad makes for a better transition
  • cable management — some cables are run under the foam, so out of sight
