Waste Board Flip?

Can the waste boards be flipped with adding a counter bore? Probably a stupid question!

I wouldn’t see any reason why they couldn’t, I don’t know the practicality of it, as if you’ve already surfaced the top down to the aluminum channels flipping it won’t give you any extra work height. Unless you have have some ugly cuts into the waste-board you’re looking to hide.

You could, but you wouldn’t want to counterbore them in the exact same spot. The material has already been thinned out there from the other side, and you’ll be left with a hole that the socket head screw will likely just rip through when you tighten it down. You would be best served drilling the holes offset in a way that the MDF wasteboard extends out past the front of the machine by like 3/4", and then cutting off the excess (if desired).

But, if you are flipping the MDF over, that implies that the MDF itself is still thick enough that it stands taller than the aluminum T-slots. And if it’s thick enough for that, why not just surface the top of the MDF down some more to reset it to a smooth surface?
