Is it normal for the waste board to be so out of flat in the center? I did my new 4x2 yesterday. It wasn’t bad at the sides, maybe 1/32 total removed. In the center it was closer to 1/8.
I also see that I have a very slight tilt front to back on the router. Barely visible lines running across the waste boards. Is this something I should be trying to correct? The whole tramming subject is a bit over my head
Thanks
That’s more dishing than is typical, but it happens. One thing to consider is to put the machine on a sheet of foam — it will fully support things, and more importantly dampen vibration and noise — but I doubt it will alter the need to actually tram.
We have instructions for flattening the MDF at:
Or, I worked up a file for a single slat at a time (but can’t find it at the moment)
For the nod on the spindle see the VFD instructions:
pgs. 18–20
That said, we have a lot of customer who just work up their first file and send it — tram and so forth only become an issue when one has a project where the lines are objectionable enough and sanding isn’t workable to address them — feel free to use the machine as-is, and re-visit this later when you see a need, and are more comfortable with using the machine/software.
Thank you. I did use this file to do the flattening. I’ll go with what I have now and not worry about tramming unless it becomes an issue.
