Wasted Motion when using BitZero V2

Hi All, does anyone know how to eliminate the wasted back and forth machine motion when using the BitZero V2 with a Shapeoko 5 Pro.

Here’s my work flow:

  1. Load Material (X, Y zero location is fixed/bracketed in Front Left Corner)
  2. Use “Load New Tool” & install the BitZero probing pin. Note: Load New Tool location is Front Right Corner. Load New Tool does a Bitsetter to zero the tool & machine returns to load new tool location.
  3. Jog: Rapid Position to X, Y Zero. Machine moves to Front Left corner.
  4. Use BitZero V2 to probe Corner (or just Z since X Y Zero is fixed). This is where the crazy wasted motion starts. When you Zero the Z using BitZero V2 the software automatically traverses from Front Left to Front Right to re-do the Bitsetter to zero the tool (should not be necessary since this was done when I loaded the probe pin) & then when Bitsetter is done, the software traverses from Front Right back to Front Left to the location of the Bitzero V2. So in order to zero the material z, the software traverses 8 feet for no apparent reason.
  5. Start the Job. Software traverses from Front Left back to Front Right to Load Tool location.
  6. Load cutting tool
  7. Resume … and now the CNC starts cutting.

Why does the Bitzero V2 z zero force a Bitsetter tool zero?

Why does the Bitsetter not always go to the the Load New Tool Location when done with a tool zero?

All suggestions welcome …

History has shown that even very experienced users mess this up frequently. We always remeasure the tool when you set the Z zero.

Ok, that’s understandable … but, why does it need to go back to the Bitzero location after Bittsetter? If the machine went to the load new tool location after Bitsetter that would remove the wasted motion.

What build of CM are you running?

I’m running Carbide Motion 636

You should grab build 640.

Thank you, Carbide Motion build 640 eliminated the wasted motion. Great cnc machine and the fast support is greatly appreciated!
