I’m running the latest RPi build of Carbide Motion (version 630) and noticed the MDI tab has disappeared. I sometimes use this to reset the Z height when I’m doing a surfacing operation. I have a file that does one pass and, if it doesn’t cut the entire surface, use the MDI interface to move the bit down by the amount of the surfacing pass (essentially putting it at the surface of the work piece) and setting zero there so the next surfacing pass takes another cut.
You can enable it in the Settings pane.
