What I’m I doing wrong. I’m very new to all this

I’m trying to cut a design in 3/4 inch pine. Using bit 102 looking at info start depth is set at 0 stock top. Max depth is set at .394 stock bottom. I set everything up in carbide motion probe it do all that. Hit run router moves over the wood but doesn’t cut into the wood. What do I need to do? I’m assuming I need to adjust the depth of cut to lower the bit more. Suggestion please remember I’m all new to this so need walk through.

What does the preview look like?

Usually problems such as you describe are caused by a disconnect in how you set zero relative to the stock — see: https://docs.carbide3d.com/tutorials/tutorial-homing/

If that doesn’t help, please post:

  • source file
  • generated G-Code
  • step-by-step description of how you secure the stock and set zero relative to it

It sounds like you haven’t set your Z Zero correctly… are you using the probe or touching off the top of your stock with your endmill?

In Carbide Motion, manually and slowly lower the bit to the stock and check what is the Z value. This may help us tell you where you made the mistake.

I’m using the probe.

You might be doing what I also did when new to using the probe. The probe has different placement positions depending on the number of axis being zeroed. If you are zeroing all three axis at one time, then the probe body will need to be placed on a corner with the edges hanging over the workpiece. If zeroing just one axis, then the probe body sits completely on top of the workpiece without the edges hanging over the side. The difference between these two positions will result in approximately 1/8" difference in the height of the probe. So if you are setting the probe incorrectly for the type of zeroing you are performing, you could potentially be zeroing the Z axis to be 1/8" too high or too low.

@macklebee beat me to it! make sure your probe is sitting on the ‘lowest’ part of the probe, or you will cut above the material
