What is causing these small bumps in my female inlay



I have cut the female portion in maple two times and got the small bumps marked by pencil. I have tightened all belts, adjusted the eccentric nuts properly, I did find a set screw on one roller that had worked loose and tightened it on the flat spot. Still having the same issue with the bumps. What else should I check on the machine? Shapeoko 3 XXL, Amana 46473 12 degree ball nose and 1/8 end mill used with Vetric VCarve inlay tool path

How do I post file? It’s dimmed out on my desktop

The mirror image in walnut does not have the “bumps”, so I’m assuming the file does not have any defect causing this.

Tried changing the file to .jpg and its no longer dimmed, but will not allow me to attach. As a .crv file, it is dimmed out and won;t allow me to attach

It’s a VCarve file. Not Carbide

Do I have to change the file name to attach?

Assuming it’s not the file, what can cause this deformity? I’m looking for loose nuts, bad belts (Shapeoko 3 XXL), eccentric nuts loose, etc. Anything else I should be looking at?

Probably a software issue if the file cuts well otherwise, so moved this to Vectric.

Is that location where the bit plunges? If so, you can get different forces during plunges that can cause deflection.

It looks like it is happening on the tapered bit operation. You may want to check the database and make sure it isnt doing something funny because it thinks it is a standard vbit due to the tool not being configured properly. For example you cant just copy the tool and convert it to a vbit so you can select it in the vcave inlay option for vbit. You have to look into it if you dont know exactly how it should be set up.

It is by no means a popular video but he has several videos on the topic and in this one he gives you a little hint into why the taper ball nose, engraving, and vbit profiles are not treated the same at all in vcarve. The conculsion in his videos are that the vcarve inlay toolpath isnt the way for ballnose because it forces vbit geometry (focus on only angle) when a tapered ballnose doesnt share the same properties/profile.
