Will it load and run under Windows 7 and what are the other
requirements?
Windows 7 hasn’t been supported since it was end-of-lifed 14 January 2020.
Some folks have gotten it to run, but it’s not supported.
System requirements are:
- Windows 8, 10, or 11 , 64-Bit (Intel or AMD)
- 8GB RAM (EDIT: Note that this was increased from 4GB when this was first posted)
- Screen Display: 1280 x 1024
A dirty secret for Microsoft is you can go to Microsoft.com and search for ISO images of Windows 10. Download it and burn it on to a DVD and/or USB flash drive. You can upgrade and use Windows 10. Now that is conditional on your hardware being able to run Windows 10. If you have a Win 7 laptop or computer it will not run Windows 11 because of a requirement for a security module in the CPU that older computers do not have.
If you have the home or pro edition you need to install those versions. You dont get a free upgrade from home to pro.
There are two options when installing a new OS on Microsoft. The first is to preserve your data and apps and the other is to wipe everything out. The first option seldom works. Plus if your old filesystem was FAT32 Windows 10 is NTFS so you will need to back up anything you want to preserve and restore it after the upgrade. Windows 7 might be NTFS but I dont remember that far back.
New laptops are extremely cheap and almost any modern laptop/computer can run CC and CM. You dont need a rocket powered PC to run the Shapeoko but that also depends on what else you do on your computer.
