What machine did I buy? A Shapeoko 3 Deluxe?

I just bought a used Shapeoko from the local makerspace, and it obviously needs some maintenance (and future upgrades!) and I wanted to be clear on which machine I actually have.

The makerspace called it a “Shapeoko XL”. It looks like the Shapeoko Deluxe kit that SparkFun used to sell, which they call a “Shapeoko 3” in the video on that page. The thing that is confusing me is the footprint/cutting area doesn’t match up with anything I can find.

The footprint is roughly 28.5"x24" and the cutting area is roughly 22.75"x24".

Anyone know what I have? Also definitely taking suggestions for any immediately necessary upgrades/replacement parts. I’d like to get the maintenance kit from their shop once I know it’s compatible.

They said the set screws slip and the timing pulleys cause it to come out of line (turn what should be a circle into an oval, for example) but otherwise it is mechanically sound and runs well.

Thanks for the help!

Here’s a picture of the board since I couldn’t put it in the main post.

A Sparkfun Stepoko — answering your ticket on the support queue now.

Thanks for the quick response and all the useful information!

Alright, have a maintenance kit and a dust boot on the way! Excited to get this thing up and running and figure out how to upgrade it more in the future.

Excellent choice on the Sweepy — that is an upgrade which will work, and is an excellent one to have.

If your set screws on the pulleys come loose many people replace them with cap screws. I THINK they are 3MM and you can go to the hardware store and get them. Usually 10MM long. The cap screw has a much bigger head to tighten without worrying about stripping out the small set screws.

Another trick is to put a magic marker across the pulley when it is properly lined up and you can visually see if the pulley has moved.
