When setting zero on my machine, I cannot get it to touch the surface of the CNC machine

Hi guys, I’m not sure what happened. I’ve been using my machine as normal. All of a sudden it started leaving a few thousandths of an inch wood to the bottom where it usually carve that part out.
So I tried resetting zero and while doing so the machine will not allow me to put the bit all the way to the surface of my CNC machine. I set zero to the tool not to the product.

Photo of your Z-axis?

The new documentation for the ER-16 VFD spindles addresses this as part of setup:

https://carbide3d.com/hub/docs/65mm-er16-spindle/

The VFD spindle should be installed at a height such that the shortest endmill in your arsenal is able to reach your work surface.

For most people, the nose of the spindle should be between 4 to 5 inches below the bottom of the mount.

I will go watch this video or read the link whichever it is.
I will state though that I cut power to my machine and when I do so the end mill drops down and touches the surface of the CNC machine, but it won’t do it when the machine is on, and I give the command

I don’t use the new collet I use the er 11

Which Z-axis does your machine have?

Which have you configured for?

How low can you get it while under power?

I’m not sure what you mean by which z axis?

There is only one Z-axis on a Carbide 3D machine. Did you configure for an HDZ or Z-Plus?

An HDZ configured as a Z-Plus will not move as much as one would expect.

Before I got to checking, which is the access I have it set to. I moved the spindle down like you suggested and now it works properly so I believe I must be the right Z axis or at least it’s working so I’m happy.! Thanks once again for the support you guys rock !:star2:
