When to replace wheels

Hello!

I’m wondering if the kind of wear shown below warrants replacing the affected wheels:

In addition, can anyone recommend cost effective replacements? Any opinions on Amazon delrin wheels? Still learning so I’m trying to see if I can avoid buying a full maintenance kit, or individual wheels for $8.

Thanks!

Looks like just cosmetic scuffing from the belt anchor clips.

I run Delrin V wheels until they’ve worn to the point of it not being possible to adjust them to be in contact w/ the V rail, or if they go out of round and won’t rotate properly.

Thanks Will!

I’m getting a wavy pattern on my spoilboard, looks like it’s both X and Y axis relates. The wheels don’t feel like they’re not perfectly round. Frustrating because the flat spots are dead flat. Perhaps the wheels need a thorough cleaning?

The wheels should be clean, and I’d also check the belts — see:

Will, do you have a source for those Delrin wheels? Are they better than the stock 3XXL wheels?

I work for Carbide 3D, so I just get the official Maintenance Kit — there should be variants for the Pro/SO4 presently.

I use a stiff nylon brush to clean my v wheels. The ones on the gantry are easy. I just push the gantry a little and brush the 8 wheels and the inverted v shape on the rail. The one under the homing switch is a little hard to get at but you could remove the switch for cleaning. v wheels on my hdz are a little harder because the homing switch is in the way. You could remove the switch then install and adjust it.

When cleaning your v wheels check the wheels are adjusted properly. If necessary to adjust put a wrench on the eccentric nut and loosen the allen head bolt. Adjust eccentric with wrench. Then hold wrench and tighten allen bolt. If you do not hold eccentric in place while tightening will cause v wheel to move due to torque from allen moving eccentric.
