Ive noticed in Vectric Vcarve there are some cool features within the simulation screen, where you can hide the cutaway areas (say the outer portions around a contour cut) and then color in the pocket and carved areas. Is this something that we will ever see in Carbide Create?
My customers love seeing what their project is going to look like in computer form (simply a screenshot) before I make it, and it helps me tweak anything before I start. However if those features were implemented it would be a GAME CHANGER!! Almost like a final proof of concept and might even help with color choices.
Also we need more wood choices like walnut and maple.
You can also create a ‘faux’ version of your idea with the cutaways by creating a throwaway pocket that includes all of the excess bits - set the DOC to the bottom of your material, set the F&S to unrealisticly high numbers so it will execute quickly, then your surrounding materials will magically disappear at the end of your simulation. The caveat of course is that you MUST deactivate this toolpath before you execute the ‘real’ cut.
I use my Shapeoko Pro XXL to carve guitar bodies, and I use this as a way to view all sides and edges without the remaining bits of the starting material.
Actually, I would really like a simulation color choice that is a solid color, maybe a very light gray, with no grain at all.
I can imagine what the project will look like in wood, what I want in the simulation is details which are often obfuscated by the patterns in the simulation. I currently use Aluminum all the time, at least until those times when Show 3D in the Model panel insists on converting to Cherry which offers the least detail resolution.
