when I save a file (.c2d) , I cannot find it. It says it saves it on D: drive but this laptop only has
a C: ??? I’m also confused about c2d. and .nc??? Can’t find that either.
If I let Create send it Motion it’s fine, but if I go back later to modify that file it is in now where land…
Carbide Create Pro allows writing them out, but since v7 Carbide Create has stored toolpaths in the .c2d file, obviating the need for them when using Carbide Motion and a Carbide 3D machine.
File management is a big deal. Over time you will accumulate a lot of files. For me on win 11 I have a folder on the Desktop names “CNC Router”. Then under that I multiple folders like downloaded images, previous versions of CC and CM. Then I have a “Projects” and then several other folders like “One of Projects” and “Current Projects”. It is not important how I have mine just set up so you can find your files.
There is likely a “D” drive on a windows computer which is usually the Windows install drive. It is a partition of the “C” drive. The “D” is on the main “C” drive. If you want to find a file use the File Explorer and do a search for the file name. You can even search for *.c2d files and File Explorer will find everything with the *.c2d extension. Once you find what you are looking for move the file where you can find it again.
In v6 Carbide Create and below you created your .c2d file but also saved separate gcode files with the .nc extension. Starting with v7 CC the gcode is encrypted inside the .c2d file. Carbide Motion only works on C3D machines and will strip out the gcode from the .c2d file. If you buy the Pro version of CC you can save the gcode out as separate files. The free version cannot save the gcode as a separate file. For a C3D machine it is not necessary to save the gcode separately but if you have a 3rd party machine you have to buy Pro license to save the gcode from the .c2d file in v7 and v8 of Carbide Create.
