One of the lessons I learned from using the SO3 in production environments is to have replacement parts.
So, now that I am into the SO4 Pro a few months I am looking to get some replacement parts for the machine - belts, motors, etc.
However, on the Carbide 3D Shop all I can find is the Shapeoko 4 Pro Maintenance Kit which is just belts and oil.
Where can I find the motors?
Where can I find the inductive switches?
I know it may be years before these actually need to be replaced but sometimes the difference between having these and not is being able to finish the job on time or not.
So where can I find them?
Or, what are the part numbers so I can find them on Mouser?
Motors are standard NEMA 23s, but have a Molex KK connector.
Proximity switches are a custom item which we have made — while they are included in the Proximity Switch Upgrade Kit, it shouldn’t be necessary to buy that.
For the latter two items, please contact us at support@carbide3d.com and we can work up a custom invoice for spares.
For the sensors, it’s not that I’m worried they will wear out on their own it’s that something might fly and hit them, or it might be user error and they get hit with a hammer. Who knows! It’s impossible to predict how things will break, only to know that they will, which is why I want to buy extras.
You mentioned this kit, do I need any extension cables? Will this work on the Shapeoko Pro XXL or just the 4?
Thank you for your help with this it goes a long ways towards resting easier that our business can stay operational. This tool is invaluable!
If you need a spare w/ the correct connector you can write in to support@carbide3d.com and we’ll set up a custom invoice for buying them.
The same applies to any other non-commodity parts. The hardware is pretty much all stainless steel and should be available from any decent hardware store.
I am not asking if you think the motors will go bad. They have on other Carbide machines and I needed to buy new ones then. It took a while as that information was not clear then as it isn’t now and I lost work.
My aim is to get ahead of these problems which is why I ask.
In fact it could be really awesome to have these listed on the site for sale. I would have already bought two and you could also put a nice mark up on them for the convenience.
I will follow up via email and I thank you for your efforts.
