Ran across two carbide motion programs, builds 368 and 579, and am wondering which is right for my old XXL.
This would depend on which version of Grbl your machine has.
Please try Build 579 first — if it works, you’re good to go — if it announced that it can’t connect to older versions of Grbl, then use 368.
If you want to reflash 0.9 to 1.1 so that you can use the newer version and features you will need:
- homing switches
- a 64-bit computer running a recent MacOS or Windows

Will: Thank you and I’d like to ask one more question.
When I initialize my machine, I presume that is as far to the left that my machine is capable of cutting and that from there it can only go 31 inches to the right and 31 inches up. Is that correct? (My machine is a Shapeoko XXL).
You should be able to jog a bit farther than that — if need be you can slightly adjust the Travel Dimensions to allow more movement.
Please note that the Y-axis working area includes the overhang cutting area at the front of the machine.
