David, indeed, Appleply is to be preferred if one likes to expose the edges.
These here are from another project, done with “baltic” (russian) birch plywood:
So that is not the excellent quality I expect from my work. Sorry the arrogance.
Appleply is not free of dark spots in inner layers, but I did not have holes yet.
Europly could be a good catch, made in Canada, mostly sold in the west, could not get it in the northeast.
IMO, originaly I am from Europe, the choices of plywood in Europe are much better than in the US, therefore I expect good quailty from Europly too. Do not risk the shipping costs for a possible disappointment yet. But possibly you can get a look at some sheets where you live.
Matthias, I do like exposed edges. I need to give Appleply a call after checking out their website. It looks like all of their 1" ply is out of stock. I have a project that I am getting ready to work on that is 1" thick and the Applyply would be perfect.
I live in North Carolina so am afraid I am in the same boat you are regarding Europly.
Appleply people do not keep their website up to date too often :), I have to call there if I need something, and yes I will need some 1" sheets to finish a year long project (hamper couch / chair).
Pls let me / us know if you get ahold of the europly.
