Just a quick short of my new Spindle working on my 3 XL. It all went really good. I did have an issue (persistent issue!) with my board. I had a ton of issues with the connector on the board for the bit runner (which I don’t need anymore). This connector requires some pretty good pushing to get the plug seated properly, and it has some VERY small solder joints. Over the year or two these joints broke and I had to solder them a few times. Installing the new Spindle cable to the board must have broken the connector again. I need a dang new board at this point but all is good as long as I hold the wire right!
When I got my BitRunner I soldered the connector on t he board. I have a lot of experience soldering but that was quite hard to get a good connection. After that every time I disconnected the BitRunner cable I had to spend 20-30 minutes fiddling with it to get the BitRunner to work again. I finally cut the cover so I did not have to remove the BitRunner cable to get the controller cover off. I had to buy a new controller and that one works better but if the BitRunner cable is disconnected on the controller end it always takes some time to get it working again.
Ha, that’s funny cus that is exactly what I did last night. Cut the cover so I don’t have to ever mess with that again. It is a VERY weak link. In the pic above, you can see where I solder sucked the solder away from the top left pin. The others are how I received the board new. It’s almost like this connector was added as an afterthought cus it looks nothing like all the other joints on the board.
But that’s cool. It works now and the friggin spindle is SWEET!!
