Using a SP Pro XL, I’m doing some milling on stock that just exceeds the t-slots at each end of the x-axis. Is there a specific work holding piece that can hold the ends in this scenario, presumably clamping to each end of the table?
There are a couple of options. One is to add a spoilboard that is big enough to hold your project on top of your hybrid table. The second option would be to use painters tape and super glue.
An auxiliary spoilboard could be taken off easily when not needed. On my SO3 XXL I have a spoilboard made of mdf that has 2" spacing with 1/4-20 tee nuts. I use cam clamps mostly but also have used the basic clamps C3D sells and also have the tiger and gater clamps that c3d sells. The advantage of an auxuliary spoilboard is it can taken on and off quickly by using the t-tracks on your hybrid table. The auxiliary spoilboard would reduce your Z but most people never get close the maximum capacity of your Z height. If it does get in the way just take it off.
Thanks so much for this suggestion. To clarify, how would an auxiliary waste board work with the the existing t-tracks. Any chance you have a photo?
I have an SO 3 so my spoilboard has brass threaded inserts that I put a flathead screw in each corner to secure it. On hybrid tracks you could use a flathead screw and the t-track to hold it down. Be sure to countersink the screw hole enough so you can surface the spoilboard a few times.
This is a great suggestion. Thank you!
