Did anyone think of upgrading the belt drives for the X and Y to gear&polly drives? Similar to the HDZ upgrade? I think this will make the S3 a great steal cutting machine.
Doing so would slow down how fast the machine can move, introduce the possibility of backlash, and greatly increase expense. If you didn’t also replace the aluminum extrusion and Delrin V wheels, the machine would still deflect as much as they allow.
The machine already does quite well at cutting steel with appropriate toolpaths:
