Gary, bearing of with CNC. Good to have them in case one uses a manual router, but a no go for a CNC.
Agreed. These bowl cutters leave a surface smoother than a baby’s butt. My remarks referred to the corner where I cannot reach in with 0.125" radius, I use wood butter that has to be rubbed in with hand, if one soaks the items with oil that is another thing.
Bearings come off easily, which also allows me to dual purpose the bits in a trim router when needed.
Ditto - made some nice larger / deeper bowls with it using the modelling (3D) toolpath.
Ordered this yesterday. I think I will eventually go to a three flute at some point.
Thanks!! And thanks for the feeds and speeds.
@SirGariff Glad I could help! Hopefully it works as good for you as it does for me. ![]()
I use the Jenny bowl bit from Cadence MFG. I always rough out any pockets ahead of time and just use the bowl bit as a finisher to prolong life and it’s just quicker in general to hog out material with a roughing bit first when I’m batching out things like coasters or trays. I will roughly out with an inner offset the size of the radius of the bit and then run a profile on that offset amount leaving the depth of the radius as well. This leaves less meat for the bowl bit to cut and just the right amount for the perfect radius
