Your go-to bowl bit?

Question of the day: what is your go-to bowl bit?

I bought a SpeTool 1/4" Shank Router Bit 3/4 Cutting Diameter 70mm/3" Total Length Bowl & Tray bit on Amazon. It’s been great so far

@Jeffish could you share your feeds and speeds? Or your tool setup in carbide?

Awesome. Where did you get this? It’s an image not a link.

@Jeffish yes…any way to get feeds, etc? Thanks!

I will note that we have a video on this:

Thanks @WillAdams . I did do a search inside of the community but couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for. This is awesome!

they are available in different diameters and radius’. With a small radius like 1/8" the bottom one creates is for the user difficult to clean: I cannot get into the corners with my sausage fingers, even for applying my wood butter, therefore the ones with 0.25"radius are the best for bowls IMO.
And: this kind

has 3 cutting edges, what makes a much smoother surface, and allows for higher speed, and -IMO most important- the cutting edges are sharp, not just 90deg like these:

that just scrape off dust instead of clearly cutting chips.

@SirGariff & @TonyMurray I’ll pull them out of my tool database later today and post them here

Sounds good thank you @Jeffish

@SirGariff

Woodpeckers. Unless I’m in dire straits for a specific bit I just wait for a sale which is always with free shipping on their bits.

I have had good luck with my Whiteside bowl bit:

@Emmess

Based on the wood species I have less tearout with the radius cut vs a square endmill. The 1/8” radius is hard to see but saves me time on finishing.

Here’s the line from my tool database

And their database, just scroll down to whatever software you are using and download the file

My next large-ish bowl bit will likely be: https://www.cadencemfgdesign.com/product-page/bowl-cut-jenny

Based on the tooling I’ve ordered in the past and the general community feedback, I’m sure I’ll be plenty happy with the results. (It is a mighty spendy tool though!)

Second these bits. In Canada and these work great.

I like the 3" shank on these. Allows you to get a deeper bowl or tray. Just have to be careful with the speeds and DOC so you don’t get any deflection.

So… stupid question of the day. Do you leave the bearing on? Does it come off? I assumed from my reading and watching that bearings on bits were a big nono.
