The z axis limit switch light is staying on and I am unable to initialize machine. I called support, left voicemail, then filled out a request for a phone call, didn’t happen. Got an email was told to switch plugs on the control board and test it. This did not resolve the issue and being told that I need a new control board. I lost my job and don’t have the money to spend $120+ and wanted to discuss this over the phone as I don’t believe this is the issue. It’s been working fine and then all of a sudden this happens. I’m relying on this to complete a time sensitive project. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I’m using the same computer (MacBook Air M1). Also tried using MacBook Air 2017 and get the same message. Thank you.
I’m sorry to hear of your troubles.
From your description, it is unclear what test you did regarding the Z-limit switch.
In a case like this, you can unplug the Z-limit switch & then check to see if Carbide Motion sees it as Open/Close - it should read as Open. If it says closed, that’s not good. You can try to plug one of the other limit switches(that you know is working properly) into the Z-axis limit switch input on the control board to see if the control board picks up on the input & state changes. At the same time you can plug the Z-axis limit switch into the other input to check that the Z-limit switch is functioning properly.
Be sure to check your wiring connectors(give them a wiggle to see if the input state changes from dynamic strain), as if they aren’t making proper connection, that may be an issue.
Ultimately, if the control board no longer sees the changing input of whatever limit switch is plugged into the Z-limit switch input, then it is the board which has gone bad for whatever reason(or the input signal path on the board).
