Z Axis Not Dropping into Work Surface at the start of cut

So, I’m still pretty new at this but, I’m cutting a 12" X 24" Flag. This is something I’ve done a half dozen times before, the only thing that has changed is swapping from a US Army logo in the stripes, to US Air Force logo. I just finished the Stars, and am trying to carve out the AF Logo with Advanced VCarve.

So, I set everything up, get X, Y, and Z zeroed, and hit start. The spindle moves over to start the cut, but the Z Axis stops short of touching the work surface by about 3/4". I’ve deleted all the tool paths, and built them again from scratch. I’ve power cycled everything. Nothing fixes it.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Wes

Sounds like you are getting an air job. That usually happens when you physically set Z zero on top of the material but in setup you set bottom of material. Go back and double check your setup is set to top of material if you are setting Z zero on top of your flag.

Right here?

Thanks GDon!! I’m not even mad I lost half a day reading articles, watching videos, and rebuilding it from scratch! That was exactly the problem. I must have accidentally changed it at some point. Got it fixed at bedtime! lol

Sleep well. No matter how much experience you have everyone is subject to making mistakes. I can guarantee if you make that mistake again you will immediately know how to fix it. Plus whatever research you did you expanded you knowledge and that is always a good thing.
