Z-axis "Sticks" When Homing (solved)

I followed the instructions for assembling my Shapeoko 3 to a T. But it seems like there is no limit switch on my Z-axis… maybe all of the axes. I haven’t even been able to “Home” the machine, let alone do my “Hello World” project.

Hoping someone can help me gain some insight into what’s wrong, so that I can get to cutting!!!

Here is a link to a video of what’s happening:

Thanks!

EDITED: Looks like the machine now comes with homing switches, nevermind!

Did you also enable homing in Grbl? http://docs.carbide3d.com/shapeoko-faq/shapeoko-enable-homing/

Please check your Z-axis switch functionality and that it’s plugged in to the right location — you can do this by pressing the Z-axis homing switch when the machine is powered up — it should light up a light on the control board — make sure it’s the Z-axis light. Also test the X- and Y-axes as well.

If the switch doesn’t light that up, contact support@carbide3d.com and we’ll work this out.

Pressing the z-axis homing switch in carbide motion, or on the actual board on the machine?

Yes, followed the tutorial for enabling Homing in Carbide Motion

Press the physical Z-axis switch — also ensure that mechanically the Z-axis plate will properly engage the switch.

Yes, that was the issue.

Bad manual, didn’t mention them in assembly, and I’m a noob, so I had no clue

Crystal at Carbide sent me the appropriate link for switch install, and I successfully homed the machine!

Thanks all for the help
