I read some of the older posts on an independent dust boots but did not see anything in the last couple of years.
What are the general thoughts? Having to pause and readjust the boot or swap deep sweepy out with regular is tedious and sometimes I don’t catch it in time.
And, has anyone tried the tube bundle from PwnCNC? It looks interesting.
Cullen, I’ve had my PwnCNC dust boot for several years and even bought repair parts after a mixup or two with non-moveable parts.
In my case, I have room at the back of my machine. On my model boot, the vacuum comes out the back rather than up. I think a vertical exit would be fine with a good vacuum. At the time I purchased mine, I had an old Craftsman vac that I wanted to help all I could.
Thanks. I currently have a vertical exit with the sweepy on the front. I mostly questioning whether the Z independent systems are really useable solutions or what pitfalls they may have.
Does it make changing the bits more of a pain or get in the way of the bitsetter. I assume you slide up for the bitsetter and then back down prior to the start of the cut. Or maybe the dust boot itself slides out and then back in. I am not sure there is an opportunity to reposition the thing after bit changes once I switch to a spindle since it won’t pause to ask for the speed change.
If you are using Vectric Vcarve with my version 5c Post-Processor the gcode will automatically pause and display the message on the Carbide Motion (CM) Status line “Put Dust Boot On, then press START” and the START button will be illuminated and active waiting to be pressed to proceed.
When you get your spindle, and if you use my version 7 Post-Processor, again it will pause and issue the message on the CM Status line “Put Dust Boot On, then press START for spindle to proceed to rpm XXXXX”, where XXXXX is the speed the gcode is to command the spindle to.
Then once you press START, the message “Dwell for 4 Seconds for Spindle to speed stabilize to rpm XXXXX” is displayed on the CM Status line.
So, you can’t inadvertently forget to put the dust boot on, it has to be deliberate, lol.
Hope that will help you. You can find a link to download my Vectric Post-Processors in the Vectric Forum here.
The spindle probably won’t arrive for a week and I need to swap out some drag chain to accommodate the water lines but I will go ahead and install this post processor and play with it this week.
